Whole small mackerel, packed in olive oil, from one of the oldest and most respected canneries in the world. Berthe is part of the Ramirez family — based in Matosinhos, where fish is sourced from the morning market and tinned the same day. The result is a tin that speaks for itself: firm, meaty flesh, genuinely good olive oil, nothing extraneous.
Milder than sardine, richer than tuna. Eat straight from the tin on good bread, flake through a summer salad, or serve with a sharp squeeze of lemon and leave it at that.
Ingredients: Mackerel (70%), olive oil, salt. Allergens: Fish. 120g.

Berthe is a Portuguese conservas brand dating from 1906, created for the French market — which explains the French-labelled tin and the iconic girl on the front. The brand is part of Ramirez & Cª (Filhos) S.A., the oldest operational fish cannery in the world, founded in 1853 and based in Matosinhos. Fish is sourced from the Matosinhos fish market and tinned on the day of catch. Five generations of the Ramirez family have run the cannery; today it supplies 55 countries.
