Tender mackerel fillets in a creamy Dijon mustard sauce — a classic combination that the Portuguese conservas tradition does better than almost anyone. Produced by Ramirez in Matosinhos, the world's oldest operational fish cannery, and tinned on the day of catch.
The mustard sauce is velvety rather than sharp, with just enough acidity to cut through the natural richness of the fish. Brilliant alongside buttery scrambled eggs, spooned over new potatoes, or simply eaten cold with crusty bread.

Producer
Berthe is a Portuguese conservas brand dating from 1906, created for the French market — which explains the French-labelled tin and the iconic girl on the front. The brand is part of Ramirez & Cª (Filhos) S.A., the oldest operational fish cannery in the world, founded in 1853 and based in Matosinhos. Fish is sourced from the Matosinhos fish market and tinned on the day of catch. Five generations of the Ramirez family have run the cannery; today it supplies 55 countries.
