Mackerel is the boldest fish in the Ati Manel pâté range — oilier, more assertive, and less forgiving than sardine or tuna. Add smoke and chilli and you have a tin that doesn't hold back.
Atlantic mackerel (Scomber japonicus), smoked and blended with extra virgin olive oil, tomato, chilli and a spice mix of vinegar and black pepper. The fat content of the mackerel carries the heat further than it does in the other pâtés — the spice builds more slowly and stays longer. The tomato adds body and a quiet sweetness that balances it out without pulling punches.
This is the one for people who want the most flavour from a single tin. Spread thickly on dark sourdough or rye. Serve alongside sharp pickles and a cold glass of white wine or a beer. It holds its own on a board without competing for attention — it simply takes over.

Brand
Ati Manel was founded in Matosinhos in 1922 and canned until the founder's death in the late 1950s. Decades later, his great-grandson — graphic designer Luís Mendonça — found the original recipes, tools and supplier notes in a family basement and brought the brand back. Each tin carries that history in its design and in the fish inside.
